St Alphage

An interior view of the porch of the parish church of St Alphage (or St Alfege), London wall, formerly the chapel of the priory of Elsynge Spital. St Alphage dated from at least the 11th century. It was demolished in 1923 although the base of the medieval tower remains. The earliest building was attached to London Wall itself, but the church moved across the road into an old Augustine priory, which was rebuilt in 1777. The image below shows details of internal arches and the north-west view of the interior of the church.
