Waterloo Bridge

Built by John Rennie between 1811-1817, the Waterloo Bridge was originally known as the Strand Bridge, having its name changed in 1816. Constructed of granite with nine elliptical arches the bridge was one of the wonders of its time. In 1923 two of the piers settled alarmingly, and in 1936 the bridge was demolished and replaced.
