South Lodge, Enfield Chase

Enfield Chase (or Chace) was the elegant villa of the late Earl of Chatham, who was left the house in a will along with £10,000 to restore it. The earl grew tired of the house within a few years and subsequent owners tended to neglect the house until Alderman Skinner purchased the estate and restored it to its former beauty. In the early nineteenth century Mr. H Grundy lived within South Lodge. The villa commanded lovely views over Epping Forest.
