Bush Hill Park

Bush Hill Park was the seat of William Mellish. It sat on Bush Hill and commanded pleasing prospects towards Epping Forest. The villa boasted a curious wood carving in the hall by Gibbons which depicted the stoning of St Stephen. No doubt this made guests feel truly welcomed. The gardens were beautifully ornamented by the New River which wound its way through the grounds. The entire garden was said to have been laid out by the celebrated French gardener Le Notre. Near the house stood a fine clump of firs known as "The Bishops".
