Old London Bridge

This view dates from 1757 before all the houses were demolished. A temporary bridge was erected to take traffic while the bridge was being cleared, but this burned down in 1757 and the city was forced to pay for some 40 extra boats to ferry traffic between London and Southwark until improvements on the bridge were completed.
