The Pantheon, Oxford Street

The Pantheon stood on the south side of Oxford Street. It was built in 1772 as a place of evening entertainment for the nobility and gentry but which was mostly used as a place for exhibitions and masquerades. It suffered severely from fire in 1792 and was closed up. By 1831 it had been sold and turned into a bazaar, and by the twentieth century had been demolished to make room for a Marks and Spencer.
