Talbot Inn, Southwark

On the east side of High Street is the Tabard (corrupted to Talbot) Inn which was once the residence of the abbots of Hyde when they came to town to attend their duty in parliament. This inn was also a rendezvous for pilgrims on their way to Canterbury (see Chaucer's Canterbury Tales for a lengthy description).
