The Church of St Martin Outwich, Bishopsgate Street

The Church of St Martin Outwich stood opposite South Sea House, partly in Bishopsgate Street. This church, dedicated to St Martin, Bishop of Tours c. 376, is of great antiquity. The name 'Outwich' comes from the family Oteswich, many of whom were buried within the church. The church survived the Great Fire of London but time had ravaged it, and it was demolished in 1796 and a replacement built within a few years.
