The gate from West Smithfield into
the remains of St Bartholomew's Priory

The gateway leading into the grounds of the ancient priory of St Bartholomew-the-Great. It looks medieval, but if you visit the gateway today you will discover that during World War I a zeppelin dropped a bomb on this gate ... and as it crumbled it revealed beneath a Tudor gatehouse that had been entirely covered by this 'mock' gothic stone front.
