Canons, in the Parish of Whitchurch

The parish of Whitchurch was once part of Stanmore, but separated from it during the medieval period.

A cabinet maker by the name of Mr Hallet built the beautiful house of Canons in 1747 (pictured above) on the site of the ancient manor house of Canons manor. By the end of the Georgian period Canons had changed hands, and it was occupied by Sir Thomas Plumer, Vice Chancellor of England.
