Stanmore House

Stanmore village lay at the boundary of Middlesex and Hertfordshire. Most of the surrounding parish was given over to meadow and pasture lands. The village was of some considerable extent, chiefly consisting of houses placed on the borers of the road to St Albans. The most desirable residences in the village were built upon Stanmore Hill, a gentle elevation at the northern part of the village. Stanmore House, depicted above, was the residence of the Countess of Aylesford, and lay a short distance to the west of the village.
