Hackney Church (Old and new)

The engraving depicts both old and new Hackney churches. The old church, to the right, was demolished in 1798, with the exception of the tower and a small chapel attached to the side. The new church was built from 1792 to 1797 and had at the time the largest seating capacity of any parish church in England (it could seat over 2,500 people). The new church cost £28,000 to build.
