Kensington
Palace c. 1815
Kensington
Palace was "an irregular pile" mainly built by William III
but added to by most of the King Georges. Most Londoners felt the palace
was of a dull and homely nature, and most strangers expressed surprise
that this was a regal establishment.
If
the palace was dull, then the Londoners loved the 300 acres of "pleasing
and animated" gardens and used them as a fashionable promenade
during the summer months.
