Bill Row & John Taylor

Bill Row and John Taylor, two grubbers. They procured a living by whatever they found grubbing between the cobbles with a crooked bit of iron, in search of nails that had fallen from horseshoes (the best iron with which to make gun barrels) or sticks, handkerchiefs, shawls etc. although often they found rings that had been drawn off with gloves, and sometimes even money. Grubbers were frequently employed to clean gully-holes and sewers.
