St George's Church, Hanover Square

In the early eighteenth century Parliament passed an Act requiring the building of fifty new churches in London to cater for the growing population. Only a few of the fifty were ever completed, and St George's in Hanover Square is one of them. Building commenced in 1712 and in 1724 the church was dedicated to St George the Martyr in honour of George I.
