Hall of the Brotherhood of the Holy Trinity, Aldersgate

The interior of the Hall of the Brotherhood of the Holy Trinity in St Botolph’s parish Aldersgate as remaining in February 1790. Standing a few doors above Little Britain on the side occupied by Trinity Court in the early nineteenth century stood a hospital belonging to the Brotherhood of the Holy Trinity, founded in 1372 (in the fifteenth century they changed their name to the Brotherhood of Priests). The picture above is of their refectory which, in Georgian times, was variously a nonjuror's chapel, a school, a vestry, the Aldersgate Coffee House, a Dancing Academy and, lastly, the sign of "Old Parr's Head". A sad conclusion to a once beautiful hall.
