The
Salters' Hall, Oxford Court, St Swithin's Lane
The
original medieval hall occupied a position on Bread Street.
It was destroyed by fire in 1539 and also in the Great
Fire of London in 1666. The hall pictured above stood
in Oxford Court in St Swithin's Lane on the site of the
medieval mansion and gardens of the Prior of Tortington.
Brayley describes the early nineteenth century hall as
a small structure of brick, with a large garden extending
behind it, and the Salters' Hall Meeting House, rented
by 'Protestant Dissenters' adjoining it.
